Founded in 1996, Scene on the Strait is the art festival that helps kids and the environment. It takes place every year in August at the beautiful Martinez Regional Shoreline in Martinez. The 2016 event will be held Saturday, August 13.
This will be our 20th year of putting on the festival, which has become one of the most popular events on the Northern California art calendar and a premiere showcase for landscape or “plein air” painting. Some of the best-known plein air artists in California show their work at the event, attracting visitors from around the state and raising money to help kids and the environment.
Scene on the Strait is a benefit for and the chief fundraising event for the Carquinez Regional Environmental Education Center (CREEC). Please click HERE to learn more about CREEC and how we are employing underserved youngsters who are learning vital pre-vocational skills. The sale of art at the festival has raised tens of thousands of dollars for employment opportunities for these children, who have in turn learned valuable workplace skills and earned money by restoring natural butterfly habitat to the Carquinez Strait area.
Every year Scene on the Strait attracts hundreds of art lovers whose art purchases helped fund CREEC’s programs. Its festive atmosphere includes tents full of top landscape paintings, artists on site, live music, art auctions, food and drink, and lots of friendly people. We welcome you to join us at our 2016 event to enjoy the art and help children and the environment.
